A demonstration of D3 with track records

D3 is a javascript utility that usefully ties data parameters to the DOM attributes and styles of SVG images. This allows for some pretty cool interactive graphs. I just started playing around with D3 this month and I am really enjoying it.


Running, like many track and field events or powerlifting, is a sport which measures athletic capacity more than it measures any skill developed through practice or strategy. It is a sport in the purest sense of the word, it measures what a body is physiologically capable of.

Using the season's best tables, we are showing the world record up to the selected date. We have record data going back to 1960-1975 depending on the event. The times are normalized by the earliest date for which there is a record in that event.
